Finally back

by andrew 29. March 2008 11:23

The site has been down since December, mostly because I tried to change hosting providers, and got busy.  I had tried moving the site to ubiquity hosting, but couldn't seem to get blogengine.net going with mono.  I have signed up with discountasp.net, and got the site back up in less then an hour.  During this time I have also been dealing with my previous host, fluidhosting, who have been trying to extort money out of me -- one of these situations you don't want to get into.  I've heard hosting providers tend to have a shady reputation, but fluidhosting are downright crooked.  But discountasp.net was recommended to me, and so far they've been great.

Anyway, looks like my site theme has defaulted to pink with butterflies, how cute -- maybe I'll keep it like this for a while.

Finally, I'm writing this post on my new Macbook Pro, which is the greated laptop I have ever owned.  I've got a Boot Camp FAT32 partition with Windows XP and Visual Studio 2008 installed -- I plan on getting my feet wet with C# 3.0, and .NET 3.5.  More one this later.

New Hosting Provider

by andrew 7. December 2007 11:36

I've selected Ubiquity Hosting as my new hosting provider, and this weekend I will be working on moving this site over to them.  They support ASP.NET on Linux by leaveraging Mono, an open-source implementation of Microsofts .NET Development platform. I had been hoping to spend more time working with, and maybe even participating in, in the mono project on my iMac G5, but lack of a suitable IDE which supports ASP.NET for Mac OSX has caused me much grief.  I was never able to get monodevelop going with the latest mono release, so I've resolved to continue my development wtih Microsoft Visual Studio on Windows.  After seeing some of the new features for Visual Studio 2008, including CSS support and client-side Javascript debugging, I'm convinced this will continue to be an excellent environment to work on.
